Summer in the US, Monsoons in Southeast Asia.

Wednesday September 3, 2008

During the summer season in the US, the monsoon season hits a peak in Southeast Asia, flooding lowlands and isolating villages in the hinterlands. Beaches and rural destinations hit a tourism low during these months – many towns’ roads are washed out, making them impassable; and the beaches in certain areas become dangerous for swimmers.

In Phuket and Bali, the red flags come out during monsoon season. These red flags are flown over beaches that pose a danger to swimmers and surfers.
