Last July 8, the Fullerton Bay Hotel Singapore finally opened its doors. The new hotel is part of an ambitious project reshaping the Marina Bay area of Singapore - the Fullerton Heritage, a dining and hospitality complex consisting of the venerable Fullerton Hotel Singapore, The Fullerton Waterboat House, One Fullerton, Clifford Pier, and the upcoming Customs House.

Guests enter the Fullerton Bay Hotel through a 56-foot wide lobby at the historic Clifford Pier, one of Singapore's key heritage sites - a landing area for many of Singapore's early settlers.

This appeal to Singapore's history can also be seen in the Fullerton Bay Hotel's glamorous and exquisite interior design; designer Andre Fu incorporated vintage nautical maps and commissioned contemporary art that reflects the meeting of history and modernity on Singapore's Marina Bay.

The new Fullerton Bay Hotel offers 100 guestrooms, five individually themed suites, and a luxurious Presidential Suite. Guests at any of these rooms enjoy magnificent Marina Bay views and exclusive balconies.

The Fullerton Bay's six suites are individually themed to reflect Singapore's resident cultures (Chinese, Malay, Indian, Peranakan and Colonial), and are situated on the upper three storeys of the hotel, in prime-angled positions facing the Marina Bay waterfront. Each suite is adorned with bespoke artwork and antiques alongside contemporary pieces that embody the spirit unique to the suite's theme. (One of the suites is depicted in the image to the right.)

The Fullerton Bay Hotel offers three signature-dining destinations designed by Andre Fu: The Landing Point, Clifford and Lantern (artist's conception below left). The Lantern is highly recommended: a stylish rooftop bar surrounding the hotel's rooftop swimming pool.

Guests looking for more culinary adventures can venture out to One Fullerton's lineup including Singapore's best restaurants, bars and entertainment concepts, covering chic cafes, fine-dining alfresco destinations serving Chinese, Italian and other International cuisines, and much more.

The Fullerton Bay Hotel Singapore is located at 80 Collyer Quay, Singapore 049326. Reservations can be arranged via phone on +65 6333 8388. More on the hotel can be found on their website: www.fullertonbayhotel.com.

I just went there this past weekend on Saturday night. We left after 30 minutes. The place is too damn dark at night – we could hardly see one another’s faces, let alone the service staff, and I had to read the menu with my cell phone camera’s flash. The service was terrible – I didn’t even manage to get a glass of iced water, let alone the wine and lobster tacos that I had ordered. We left in frustration after being ignored and left in the dark like so many mushrooms. I recommend going there only if you bring along your own klieg light, strobing lighthouse beacon or maybe a pressurized oil lamp.
