Important news for visitors traveling to Malaysia: Visa On Arrival (VOA) will no longer be issued effective today, August 16.

Malaysia has long been concerned about illegal immigration into the country, and this move is part of an attempt to stem the tide.

"The VOA facility is being abolished because it has been misused and this has had a negative effect on Malaysia," [said Immigration director-general Datuk Abdul Rahman Othman].

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had announced early this month that the VOA would no longer be issued at the country's points of entry as there had been gross misuse of the facility.

If you need a visa to enter Malaysia, apply at the Malaysian embassy or consulate nearest you.
