July 8-11: Sarawak Rainforest World Music Festival

The Sarawak Culture Village in Kuching plays host to musicians from all over the globe, who gather here to share their unique strain of world music. The Rainforest Music Festival - one of the largest music festivals in Southeast Asia - is an exciting culmination of culture, workshops, and live entertainment held for three days every year just outside of Kuching, Malaysia.

August 1-31: Merdeka Month Celebration

All throughout August, Malaysia celebrates its 51st year of independence with parades, fireworks, and many, many parties.

August 1-30: Ramadan Bazaar

In the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, Malays fast throughout the day, but make up for it by sampling good food at vibrant bazaars throughout the country. In Kuala Lumpur, the Ramadan Bazaar at Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman is especially popular - here, delicious Malay dishes are served with lots of flair, particularly bubur lambuk, a savoury porridge.

December 6-10: Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA)

The Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) exhibits the newest developments in aerospace technology in a balmy, tropical setting. Already on the world's list of premier airshows, the event will be held at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre (MIEC) next to the Langkawi International Airport. Come to see the daily four-hour flying displays, a must for any flying fan. Official site.
