Bali visitors checking into a Sanur resort have the privilege of staying in one of Bali's first resort towns - a relaxed community on the eastern coast of South Bali, just north of Tanjung Benoa and Nusa Dua, and lined with a white sand beach sheltered by a coral reef. Despite the modern restaurants and shops within walking distance of Sanur's resorts, the area has a more relaxed feel compared to Kuta, attracting older visitors and family travelers.
Check the list below for your hotel choices in Sanur. For other accommodations on the island, check out our list of Bali Hotel Picks.
The Bali Hyatt has been around a while; the hotel might not be up to date with the latest technology, but the setting is just as beautiful as it was in its heyday, located in a huge, lush garden so popular, guided tours are conducted around the property for plant lovers. (The Bali Hyatt is not to be confused with its sister hotel in Nusa Dua the Grand Hyatt.)
From one of the Bali Hyatt's 386 guestrooms, guests can venture forth to experience the hotel's spa treatments or dine at one of the five restaurants onsite. Kids will enjoy the hotel's Club Sanur and the numerous sports activities on offer.
The Sri Phala Resort and Villa's 27 bungalows are furnished to a certain degree of tasteful luxury: hand-carved four-poster beds and teak furniture add a romantic charm to accommodations that come with all the basics and more. Each bungalow is located inside a lushly-manicured Balinese garden. Relatively small pool and location some distance from the beach may be an issue, but the resort in general is located close to Kuta if guests seek some action beyond the resort walls.
The Segara Village Hotel comes with a history - the family that runs it helped pioneer tourism in Bali, and they keep the tradition going with the Segara's 120 guestrooms, clustered in five "villages" around the sprawling resort grounds. Three swimming pools (including an infinity-edge pool overlooking the beach) and two restaurants are also available for guests' enjoyment. Guests may book water sports activities at the hotel, from snorkeling to scuba diving. Free WiFi available in public areas.
428 rooms, suites and villas along the best strip of beach on Sanur make Sanur Beach Hotel Bali a prime choice for Sanur visitors: this four-star hotel is a family-friendly property with two swimming pools, a kid's pool, and a kid's club if you're bringing the little ones on vacation. The wide assortment of cuisines, thanks to the many restaurants onsite, can be overwhelming. The service may be slightly impersonal given the size of the hotel, though.
The Mercure is located in a large (12 acre) tract of real estate in Sanur, enough room for the 41 traditional-style cottages housing 189 guestrooms, not to mention the two pools, tennis court, and other amenities. The whole lot is located right on one of Sanur's most attractive beaches. Pandawa Restaurant onsite serves an interesting array of Asian and European dishes; drinkers get to choose between three bars for a drink or three.
The Kamuela Villas & Suites (formerly known as the Aston Legend Sanur) is a boutique resort with a private beachfront and all it entails: easy access to the sea for guests staying in one of the Kamuela's twelve suites or seven private pool villas. Despite the small number of rooms, the Kamuela offers a range of amenities that one expects from bigger establishments: a large swimming pool, a restaurant, and a full service spa. Free WiFi available in public areas; free shuttle services available upon request.
The Puri Santrian is a beachfront four-star resort with 182 rooms; part of the resort is reserved for the Santrian Club, five-star accommodations encircled by a lush tropical garden and filled with exclusive extras like a private pool and a lending library.
The Puri Santrian's regular bungalows, Garden View Rooms and Ocean View Rooms by themselves provide a great Sanur retreat; guests get access to the resort's two-level Balinese open-air restaurant, three large swimming pools with sunken pool bar, and private white sand beach.
The Waka Maya's 14 guestrooms include seven villas (four with private pools) that offer the utmost privacy for Sanur visitors. Ancient Balinese architectural traditions permeate the place - the walled villas are reminiscent of Balinese family compounds, and the swimming pools resemble bathing temples like Tirta Empul.
The property is far from the main town stretch and the beach, but the shuttle service can take you where you need to go outside the property. (The Waka Maya is not a beachfront resort.) All rooms are nonsmoking. Free WiFi available in rooms and public areas.
