Bali Hotel Picks - Jimbaran Hotels
Villas and Resorts in Jimbaran, Bali

By Michael Aquino, About.com

Jimbaran hotels have come a long way - rising from a former fishing village, they now serve one of Bali's most vigorous tourist destinations. Jimbaran's beach is still lined with seafood restaurants offering tourists a cheap but filling diversion - meanwhile, the world's finest resort chains have set down roots in the area, and villas have become a common means of accommodation here.

The resorts listed below represent the mid- to upper-range of choices in Bali, albeit they're par for the course in Jimbaran, being mostly private villas and high-end resorts. Rates are subject to change and serve as a reference only.

Ayana Resort and Spa

Named after a "place of refuge" in Sanskrit, the Ayana Resort and Spa clings to limestone cliffs soaring above the Indian Ocean. The Ayana's 77-hectare property is just 15 minutes from Bali’s airport. Guests can choose from 368 guestrooms - 219 rooms and suites, 77 one-bedroom and two-bedroom private villas and the three-bedroom Ayana Villa.

Resort highlights include a Thermes Marins Thalasso spa complex; 13 dining venues including the ultra-glamorous Dava; five purpose-built wedding venues; and the avant-garde Champa Garden for events of up to 2000 people.

Jimbaran Puri Bali

The Jimbaran Puri Bali is ideal for honeymooners looking for a discreet but elegant getaway. Guests will find a small, luxuriously-appointed property with 41 spacious thatched-roof cottages; each cottage is set amidst well-manicured gardens and walled off from the outside world.

Inside each cottage, guests enjoy space everywhere: huge lounge areas, terraces, beds, and open-air bathrooms with double sinks and sunken bath tubs. Minibar, personal safe, IDD and satellite television are standard with every cottage.

If there's a downside here, it must be the overpriced food - try the nearby seafood restaurants instead.

Keraton Jimbaran Resort

Keraton Jimbaran tries very hard to recreate the classical Balinese experience, from guests being rung in like royalty by costumed courtiers to surroundings carved and burnished to simulate a royal palace.

The Keraton Jimbaran's 99 guest rooms each have their own balconies, the usual amenities and are fully air conditioned. The resort is no slouch where dining, sports activities, and swimming pool are concerned, but if you're itching to get out of Jimbaran, the resort offers a free shuttle to Kuta, with return trips departing from the Hard Rock Hotel.

Pat-Mase Villas

The twenty villas at Pat-Mase are clustered in groups of four or six, each cluster offering a central larger pool, with the whole complex sharing one large swimming pool where guests can socialize while drinking up the sun.

The individual villas are rather roomy, with 2, 3, and 4 bedroom configurations. Guests can expect to be pampered to within an inch of their lives, be it through the in-house butler service (unpack my bags, will you, Jeeves?) or through the in-villa breakfast service (the smell of frying bacon and eggs - what a great way to wake up on your vacation!).

Jamahal Private Resort & Spa

This boutique villa property boasts an almost 1:1 ratio between guests and staff, so you can rest assured that the Jamahal's service is right up there with the best. The Jamahal accommodates a maximum of 24 guests between its 12 roomy villas - the lagoon-style waterfall pool is a big hit with visitors.

Beach fanatics should stay somewhere else - as the Jamahal is located on the inland side of Jln Uluwatu, you'll have to walk ten minutes to get to the shore. The Jamahal has an arrangement with the Puri Jimbaran Hotel, so guests can enjoy that resort's private beach as if it were their own.

Karma Jimbaran

Next to a beach with a spectacular sunset view, the Karma Jimbaran offers a collection of three- and four-bedroom courtyard villas, each set amidst walled tropical gardens with their own pool. As if that weren't enough, Karma Jimbaran's special Personal Preferences Program allows guests to customize their accommodations even further, personalizing their villas' pillows, music, video options, mini-bar, and much more.

The seclusion offered by the villas ensures that guests will never feel hemmed in by crowds, even when the resort is fully booked. Guests can still socialize at the Di Mare restaurant, or at the main swimming pool.

Four Seasons Jimbaran

The Four Seasons is a very child-friendly hotel, with a Kids Club and adjacent paddling pool. In the evenings, you can leave your kids to the resident babysitters while you enjoy nearby Kuta. Guests stay in large Balinese-style villas sitting on a hill overlooking Jimbaran Bay.

The downside: the resort's beach area is rather small, meaning you have only a few lounge chairs up for grabs. Stay at the plunge pool instead, and thank your lucky stars the great service, spacious villas, and 35 acres of beautifully-manicured surroundings more than make up for this one sour note.
