Bali Hotel Picks: Tanjung Benoa and Nusa Dua Hotels

By , About.com Guide

The Nusa Dua hotels and Tanjung Benoa resorts featured here offer an interesting contrast of accommodations – from Nusa Dua’s shiny new villas to Tanjung Benoa’s mix of affordable and premium hotels. The area’s beach faces the east, overlooking the Indian Ocean, and its low waves make it comparatively safer than Kuta Beach.

The hotels listed below represent a wide variety of choices in the southern peninsula, brand-new private villas cheek-by-jowl with older budget establishments. Rates are subject to change and serve as a reference only.

1. Nikko Bali Hotel

Nikko Bali Resort and Spa sits on a cliff overlooking the Indian Ocean. The Nikko’s 390 guestrooms are impeccably furnished, with hardwood floors and luxurious bath facilities. Get an ocean view room for a balcony view overlooking the sea.

If the hotel has one weakness, it’s the distance from the area’s stores and restaurants. This can be especially troublesome if you’re not willing to fork over the dough for the Nikko’s pricey buffet dinners! Not to worry, you can hire a cab to Nusa Dua for $3; a trip to Kuta costs $7.

2. The Bale

Guests can choose from 29 roomy Balinese pavilions overlooking the Indian Ocean, each with its own pool and private garden. Guests are assigned a butler to look after their needs throughout the duration of their stay.

If you want to see the rest of the resort outside your private pavilion, you can get a massage at the Bale Spa, or enjoy dinner at the in-house Faces restaurant. Other services include a sauna, gym, library, conference facilities, and a boutique.

The resort is suited for honeymoons and romantic getaways, so don't expect to do much socializing with other guests. But why would you even want to?

3. Inna Putri Bali

If you don't mind staying in a rather dated resort complex, the Inna Putri Bali can offer you excellent value for money. The resort's 384 rooms offer most of the creature comforts you'd expect in more expensive settings: a café, pharmacy, post office, conference facilities, and your choice of three in-house restaurants are all at the guest's disposal.

The Inna Putri Bali is less than a ten-minute walk away from the village, where you can get cheaper meals and other services. The resort is right next to the beach, although the view from the rooms may be obstructed by the palm trees that line the shore.

4. Grand Mirage Resort

A family-friendly resort in Tanjung Benoa, the Grand Mirage Resort is set in a Bali-inspired building on the edge of Nusa Dua Beach.

Younger visitors will enjoy the resort’s kiddie pool, poolside volleyball, and watersports facilities. Older guests will favor the resort’s poolside massages (reserve early, as this has a long line in the mornings), resort activity program, and easy access to the town’s restaurants and shops via a convenient taxi counter by the road.

Downside: getting to Kuta from the Grand Mirage may take up to 40 minutes each way, so stay somewhere nearer to town if you plan to hit the clubs every night.
