Linda Duits' Southern Laos Road Trip

From Michael Aquino, About.com

Linda Duits traveled to Laos from Thailand, avoiding the quick and easy air route and settling instead on a long overland haul from the border to Savannakhet. On her first trip in 2002, she found a place that has "long been forgotten by the world," as she puts it.

A few years later, though, when she found time to visit again, tourism had increased; "More and more people know how to go to Laos, especially now that the border with Cambodia is open," Linda recounts. However, Laos is still not that used to visitors - "blond backpackers are still an unusual sight to locals - they may be shocked or surprised to see you."
