Battery Hearn was captured intact by the Japanese Imperial Army, who then repaired it and used it against American invading forces. Hearn's 12-inch barrels could fire shells at a maximum range of 17 miles in all directions.

Hearn's big gun is the biggest on the island, and provided a publicity coup for the conquering Japanese, who used it as a backdrop for several publicity photos.
