Remembering the Japanese Dead on Corregidor

From Michael Aquino, About.com

The Japanese War Memorial was built with funds from Japanese donors, to commemorate the thousands of Japanese soldiers who occupied the island and died when the Americans retook it in 1944.

Japanese tourists are very welcome on Corregidor today, but are given their own separate tour schedule. Mixed Japanese-American tours have never ended well - the ruins on Corregidor, so bitterly fought over by both sides, can stir up some deep-seated grievances.
