(Continued from previous slide) Spooked by the soldiers' rebellion, and further encouraged by the fact that the British Ambassador to the Philippines had gotten wind of their plans, someone in command made the decision to exterminate the soldiers.

In groups of 12, the soldiers were led to the Kindley air strip under the pretense of taking them home. They were then machine-gunned on the air field. All the soldiers were killed except one Jibin Arula, who jumped off of the cliff into the sea. Arula was picked up by fishermen several hours later, and told his story to a senator.

The murder of those soldiers - now known as the Jabidah Massacre - spurred a rebellion in the largely Muslim south of the country, one which rages to this day.
