The Esplanade and the Singapore Skyline at Night

The Esplanade is known to locals as the “Durian”, resembling as it does the delicious but putrid Southeast Asian fruit. The affectionate nickname aside, the Esplanade is the heart of Singapore’s performing arts: the building contains a number of performing venues, a modern library, and a shopping mall.
