Bangkok Hotels
Central Location and Great Ambience at the Right Price

By , About.com Guide

Bangkok hotels are some of the best in the world, and certainly some of the best in Southeast Asia. Listed below are picks from the top of the litter, ranging from moderately-priced accommodations to luxury digs. In putting this list together, we placed a high premium on accessibility (to the river, to the Skytrain) and central location (close to Bangkok’s best shopping and entertainment), on top of the usual factors like amenities and ambience.

Viengtai Hotel

Price: From 1800B (US$56)
Address: 42 Tanee Rd., Banglamphu, Bangkok 10200, Thailand
Phone: 662-280-543445

Viengtai is one of the few hotels within the borders of Banglamphu, the historical district of Bangkok. Far from being “historical”, Viengtai is thankfully modern – guests have access to high-speed Wi-fi internet while sitting at the hotel’s 24-hour restaurant.

A stay at one of Viengtai’s 200 rooms is rather reasonably-priced. After indulging in your complimentary breakfast, the sights of Banglamphu await – you can see a variety of temples and markets within walking distance of the hotel.

Narai

Price: From 1960B (US$61)
Address: 222 Silom Road, Bangkok 10500, Thailand
Phone: 662--2370100

King Narai the Great was a King of Siam who was best known for his diplomatic achievements in the West. His namesake hotel is a boxy but comfortable 12-storey high-rise topped by a revolving restaurant.

Its Silom Road location puts Narai right at the midst of Bangkok’s best shopping, entertainment, and business spots. From Narai, Silom Village is only five minutes away on foot; Patpong, Robinson, and Silom Complex are a fifteen minute walk away; and the airport is only a 40-minute drive away. Guests also have easy access to the SkyTrain (Chongnonsee station) and the express ferry.

Shanghai Inn Hotel

Price: From 2450B (US$76)
Address: 479-481 Yaowaraj Road, Samphanthawong Bangkok 10100, Thailand
Phone: 662-6780101

A boutique hotel set in the middle of Bangkok’s Chinatown district, Shanghai Inn invokes the essence of Chinese-style chic: its 55 rooms are designed to evoke the romance of old Shanghai, with silks and antique Chinese-style furniture all around.

Not everything is old-school in Shanghai Inn, as guests will enjoy all the modern conveniences and facilities one would expect of a city hotel. Accessibility is a major plus for guests: the Shanghai Inn is quite close to Bangkok’s major cultural destinations, and the hotel is quite close to the Chao Phraya river and at the MRT (Hua Lumpong).

Baiyoke Sky Hotel
