Hue in Vietnam offers hotels in all prices and sizes, but it’s not surprising that some of its most luxurious hotels once served as residences to powerful French officials during the Vietnamese colonial period. The oldest of these hotels served with distinction during the heyday of the French, then were relegated to obscurity once the Communists took charge. Today, a more entrepreneurial generation have rescued the older hotels and remade them into the finest Hue accommodations money can buy.
Imperial Hotel

The Imperial Hotel is a five-star hotel in Hue - the first in the city to be so recognized. Its 194 guestrooms range from deluxe rooms (168 in all) to the hotel’s single Grand Presidential Suite. The La Residence Hotel & Spa is a boutique hotel with an illustrious history - it was formerly the French colonial governor’s residence, which explains the exquisite art deco design that remains to this day. Saigon Morin

The Saigon Morin was the first hotel in Central Vietnam, having been built in 1901 by a French businessman. In its heyday, the hotel hosted luminaries like Charlie Chaplin and the writer Andre Malraux. War and the independence movement dimmed its lights for a time, but after extensive renovations, the Saigon Morin is now once more a luxurious haunt.
