Hue in Vietnam offers hotels in all prices and sizes, but it’s not surprising that some of its most luxurious hotels once served as residences to powerful French officials during the Vietnamese colonial period. The oldest of these hotels served with distinction during the heyday of the French, then were relegated to obscurity once the Communists took charge. Today, a more entrepreneurial generation have rescued the older hotels and remade them into the finest Hue accommodations money can buy.
The Imperial Hotel is a five-star hotel in Hue - the first in the city to be so recognized. Its 194 guestrooms range from deluxe rooms (168 in all) to the hotel’s single Grand Presidential Suite. All rooms have luxurious polished wooden floors, natural fabric, and tasteful East-meets-West décor. The large windows afford guests a view of the meandering Huong River that bisects the city of Hue. The hotel also houses the city’s best Japanese restaurant, complete with imported ingredients, seasonings, and head chef.
The Pilgrimage Village is a boutique resort at the outskirts of Hue, offering guests a natural getaway in the Vietnamese countryside. The Pilgrimage Village’s rooms and villas come with individually-controlled air conditioning, satellite TV, individual safe deposit boxes, and IDD telephone. Guests seeking access to the city center can take advantage of the Village’s free shuttle bus to Hue.
Other village highlights: cooking classes for Vietnamese cuisine; handicraft houses nearby so guests can see artisans at work; and the Vedanā spa’s facial and full-body spa treatments.
The La Residence Hotel & Spa is a boutique hotel with an illustrious history - it was formerly the French colonial governor’s residence, which explains the exquisite art deco design that remains to this day. Most of the hotel’s 122 guestrooms and suites afford its guests a view of the Huong River and the flagpole across the bank.
Other hotel amenities include a fine dining restaurant capable of seating 170; a tennis court; and an outdoor swimming pool adjoining the seven-room luxury spa.
The Mercure Hue Gerbera is centrally located across the road from the Hue boat terminal. 108 guestrooms are available to guests, as are the Mercure’s many amenities, including (but not limited to) outdoor pool, conference facilities, fitness and spa facilities, and a private dining room overlooking the Huong River. A total of 52 non-smoking rooms available; WiFi access available for a fee.
The Romance Hotel offers 112 guestrooms, ranging from 97 Deluxe Rooms to its three spacious Romance Suites. Guestrooms all offer wooden floors, air-conditioning, free Wifi, and 26-inch plasma televisions connected to 32 international channels.
Guests don’t have to wander far to tuck in, what with the Romance Hotel’s Lucky Restaurant on the first floor, plus the Romance Restaurant and Rendezvous Bar & Café on the eleventh floor. Other hotel amenities include a skyview pool and a fitness center. Babysitting available by prior arrangement.

Park View Hotel is Hue’s newest four star hotel, with a central location that places it within view of the Citadel (guests may spot it from the ninth-floor rooftop). The location is at a remove from Hue’s happening nightlife scene, but its size and amenities make the Park View Hotel an ideal place for traveling families.
The Park View Hotel’s sizeable rooms offer large windows, ample bathrooms en suite, and free Internet access. The package includes free breakfast and access to the hotel’s many amenities: gym, spa and massage services, and swimming pool.
The Saigon Morin was the first hotel in Central Vietnam, having been built in 1901 by a French businessman. In its heyday, the hotel hosted luminaries like Charlie Chaplin and the writer Andre Malraux. War and the independence movement dimmed its lights for a time, but after extensive renovations, the Saigon Morin is now once more a luxurious haunt.
183 guestrooms and four restaurants within the premises pamper discriminating visitors with an old-world ambience; guests may also enjoy the hotel’s sauna and massage, fitness center, outdoor swimming pool, and access to a traditional show and cruise along the Huong River.
